  12. Has anyone got anything approximating an "executive summary" kind of
  13. description of the ICON programming language?

  15. If so, could you please E-mail it to me?

  17. Basically, my situation is this... I know *nothing* about ICON other that
  18. the fact that it was inspiried/implemented by the same fellow who developed
  19. SNOBOL.  On that basis alone, I assume it's good for programming tasks
  20. involving the manipulations of strings.

  22. As it happens, I need to do some rather fancy kinds of text manipulation,
  23. so I'm just wondering if ICON will be the right tool for the job.

  25. (It is at least plausible that ICON would actually be overkill for the
  26. kinds of things I need to do, and I may end up just using m4 or something
  27. like that.)

  29. So if anyone could provide me with a capsule summary of ICON, I'd really
  30. appreciate it.  In particular, I'd like to know:

  32.     o   In a nutshell, what is ICON?
  33.  
  34.     o   What kinds of programming tasks is ICON especially well suited
  35.         for?
  36.  
  37.     o   What kinds of programming tasks would you refuse to do in any
  38.         language OTHER THAN ICON?
